Police make arrest for alleged threat at Kan. high school

MCPHERSON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities and USD 400 Smoky Valley Public Schools continue investigating an alleged school threat that took place Monday and one student is in custody, according to a media release from police.

Smoky Valley school officials were made aware of information about a potential threat made through social media towards Smoky Valley High School, 1 Viking Boulevard in Lindsborg.

Police were notified of the potential threat and immediately started an investigation into this incident. Through a collaborative effort between USD 400 officials, the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office and the Lindsborg Police Department that went late into the morning hours, a juvenile subject was identified and taken into custody without incident.

While the immediate incident has been resolved, the investigation remains active and ongoing. The Lindsborg Police Department takes these incidents seriously and will investigate them accordingly.

Late Monday, school district officials and Lindsborg Police Department were contacted with information about a potential threat made through social media towards Smoky Valley High School, 1 Viking Boulevard in Lindsborg, according to a statement from  Superintendent Heath Hogan on the school district web site.

The Lindsborg Police Department immediately started an investigation into the incident and numerous people of interest are being interviewed by police. 

Smoky Valley High School is holding classes on its regular schedule on Tuesday.  There is an increased law enforcement presence.  Anyone who has specific information related to this threat should contact the Lindsborg Police Department, 785-227-2988.
