SHERMAN COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating 2 Florida men on multiple charges after a chase on Interstate 70 in portions of eastern Colorado and northwest Kansas.

Just after 1p.m. Thursday, deputies in Colorado notified Kansas authorities they were in pursuit of a 2007 Dodge Ram and a 2012 Nissan Pickup eastbound on Interstate 0 just west of the Kit Carson County Line, according to Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Tod Heilman.

A short time later, the suspects ditched the Nissan and continued eastbound in the Dodge.  The pickup struck spike strips placed by deputies in Colorado and the KHP but continued traveling on rims until a KHP trooper forced it off the road near mile post 9 in Sherman County.

The two suspects later identified as 24-year-old Taylor Lee Epperhart and 23-year-old Cody M. Rupert both of Florida ran from the vehicle.

Due to temperatures near 90 degrees, they didn't run far. Both are being held in the Kit Carson County Jail in Burlington, Colorado facing multiple charges.
