County Commission hears about needed maintenance at Geary Community Hospital

Geary County Commissioners received a briefing on maintenance issues at Geary Community Hospital. Chair Charles Stimatze said one of the issues involved the roof of the hospital. "The roof around the Women's Center is leaking."

Stimatze explained they were also told in the Hospital report that one or two boilers went down, which meant surgeries couldn't be done. The boilers are used to sterilize surgical equipment. "So now they've got to go out to Fort Riley. Fort Riley is going to let them use the cleaners so they can have the surgical equipment cleaned."

Geary Community has been struggling to meet financial challenges. Lack of available funding has been the issue in meeting maintenance needs, but surgeries will continue at GCH.
