The Latest: Victim in fatal Kan. house fire identified

MARION COUNTY — Authorities have classified the cause of a fatal fire residential fire in Marion as accidental, according to the Kansas State Fire Marshal.


Just before 3p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a structure fire at 814 of east Lawrence or the intersection of Cedar and Lawrence in the City of Marion, according to a media release.


Upon arrival the west side of the structure was fully engulfed in flames and heavy smoke.


Once the fire was under control authorities located the body of Howard E. O'Connor, 47, within the west side of the structure.

Just before 3p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a structure fire at 814 of east Lawrence or the intersection of Cedar and Lawrence in the City of Marion, according to a media release.


Upon arrival at the scene Officers attempted to locate any individuals that may be in the structure. The west side of the structure was fully engulfed in flames and heavy smoke, officers moved to a scene control and fire assistance role.


Once the fire was under control a deceased male was located within the west side of the structure.


The body was transferred to Frontier Forensics in Kansas City for identification. The Kansas State Fire Marshall’s Office was contacted to investigate the fire scene.
