Kansas felon remains jailed for weekend stabbing

BUTLER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after a weekend arrest.

Just before 12:30P.M. Saturday, police were called to a disturbance in the southern part of the city of Augusta, according to the department for public safety. 

Upon arrival, police found two victims identified as Dana Haynes, 59-year old female in critical condition and Jeffrey Carley, a 58-year old male, in serious condition. Butler County EMS transported both to Wesley Medical Center.

Officers were able to find the suspect, Wayne Riggins, 28, who fled the scene. He has been booked in to Butler County Jail on two counts of aggravated battery.

Riggins has seven previous convictions that include burglary, aggravated burglary, theft, criminal damage to property and for drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections

Authorities did not have an update on the victims Monday afternoon..
