Blue Jays started the new year with a win

The Junction City Blue Jays defeated the Garden City Buffaloes 49-41 this past Friday night to begin 2020 with a basketball victory.

Blue Jay coach Nick Perez said he told the team, It's a new season. "One and three, it's time to move on. We've got 16 games, we're going to break them up into four four-games and we're going to try to win as many as we can. We'll worry about the first four and we've got Topeka West next Friday ( Jan. 10 ) and they're a very very good team so we've got to get better."

You can hear the Lady Jays and Blue Jays Friday night on 107.9 FM and 1420 KJCK. The girls game broadcast is scheduled at 6 p.m. and the boys contest about 7:45 p.m.

Reaves scores 21 to help Oklahoma top Kansas State

Norman, Okla.(AP) —Austin Reaves scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half to help Oklahoma rally and to beat Kansas State 66-61. Kristian Doolittle added 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Sooners. Oklahoma won despite shooting just 37 percent overall and making just 5 of 23 3-pointers.

Xavier Sneed scored 22 points and Cartier Diarra added 10 for Kansas State in the Big 12 opener for both teams. Kansas State led by 11 in the second half. Reaves hit a 3-pointer to finally put the Sooners ahead 63-61 with 1:39 to play. The Wildcats never scored again.
