Police K9 helps capture 2 teens for Kansas armed robbery

SHAWNEE COUNTY— Law enforcement authorities are investigating an armed robbery and have two suspects in custody.

Just before 1:30p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 3700 block of SW Park South Court in Topeka regarding an aggravated robbery to an individual, according to Lt. Manuel Munoz. The victim stated that two black males robbed him at gunpoint and fled in a white Ford SUV.

Nearby officers spotted a vehicle matching the given description near 37th and Kirklawn.

The driver of the SUV later identified as Alonzo Jerome Boyd Jr, 18, Topeka, initiated a vehicle pursuit that lasted approximately five minutes, traveling through southeast Topeka.

Boyd disabled the vehicle at 15th and Adams by striking a curb. Both occupants fled on foot but were quickly apprehended. A Police K9 caught Boyd. They were not injured. 

As a result of the investigation, officers arrested Boyd and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Aggravated Robbery, Theft by Threat, Reckless Driving and other traffic related charges, according to Munoz.

A 17 year-old boy  was also taken into custody and booked into Juvenile Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Felony Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer.
