Brad Scholz has taken the oath of office to fill the vacant seat on the Geary County Commission. He will fill the vacancy on the governing body created by the death of R. "Ben" Bennett in December.

Scholz said he is excited and looking forward to working with the city and the county. "I'm interested in how the city and county work together, and how those budgets overlap one another because I know there's been some contention in the past, would like to kind of focus on that.

Scholz added he would like to look at the budget and understand how it works.

Scholz was appointed to the county commission seat following a recommendation from 1st District County Commission precinct members to fill the vacancy. The appointment is for this year with the position  then going on the ballot later this year for a two-year unexpired term. Scholz confirmed he does plan to seek election to continue serving as the 1st District commissioner.
