Patrick Foxworth captured first place in the 120 pound weight class in the boys competition at the JCHS Wrestling Invitational at the Shenk Gym on Saturday. Elisa Robinson finished first in the 191 pound weight class in the girls bracket.
It was a busy Saturday of competition at the Shenk Gym which began about 9 a.m. and stretched out until approximately 8:15 p.m.
For Junction City the head coach, Tyler Gonzalez said Foxworth does what he's asked to do. "He does the right things and he believes in his coaches and he believes in himself. It just shows. He gets stronger as the matches go on, he frustrates really good kids, and so I'm really happy to see what Patrick has in store for him the next couple of years."
Robinson has been a wrestling champion in each of the four years of her high school wrestling career. Gonzalez stated that Robinson has planted herself at JCHS as somebody to know. "And we're just trying to help her continue that and get her really prepped for the next step in what's next in her life."
Boys team scores were tallied, with Junction City finishing 9th out of 18 teams with 69 points. Manhattan was third with 125 1/2. Kapaun Mt. Carmel of Wichita finished first with 204 points followed by Shawnee Heights with 156 1/2.
For the Blue Jays and Lady Jays other highlights included a third place finish by Zack Petrusky at 106 points and a fourth place finish at 145 pounds by Alex DeGuzman. For the girls Leilani Nuusila captured second place at 170 pounds.
