The Latest: KHP catches robbery suspect who ran from crash in Salina

SALINA  — Law enforcement authorities are investigating suspects involved in a chase and crash in Salina following an armed robbery.

At 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to an armed robbery at E-Z Trip Convenience Store, 100 S. Main in Newton, according to a social media report from police.

Two men had entered the store, armed with firearms. Multiple shots were fired in the store by at least one of the suspects. The store clerk was not injured. The suspects obtained an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing in a vehicle. Officers looked at surveillance video and determined a suspect vehicle description with a tag number. That information was given to surrounding counties and the Kansas Highway Patrol.

About an hour later, Kansas Highway Patrol in Salina located the suspect vehicle and began a pursuit. The vehicle crashed near Salina South High School, and at least one suspect fled on foot. All three individuals are now in custody..

SALINA —Law enforcement authorities tracked down a suspect who fled a car crash early Tuesday near Salina South High School.

Just before 7am, KHP Trooper’s attempted to stop a vehicle that crashed near the school 730 East Magnolia Road, according to Trooper Ben Gardner.

Multiple subjects were inside vehicle at the time of the crash. One  subject ran north from the scene, away from high school. 

Just before 8a.m., law enforcement reported they had located and placed into custody the suspect, according to Gardner.

Name of the suspect and possible charges have not been released. The KHP did not report any injuries from the crash.

Just before 7am, KHP Trooper’s attempted to stop a vehicle that crashed near the school 730 East Magnolia Road, according to Trooper Ben Gardner.

Multiple subjects were inside vehicle at the time of the crash.

One  subject ran north from the scene, away from high school. 

Troopers are attempting to locate a reported young black male wearing a grey sweat shirt. Salina South High School has been notified.  Expect multiple Troopers in the area.
