Driver arrested after toll plaza crash on Kansas turnpike

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a weekend accident on the Kansas Turnpike.

Just after 2a.m. Sunday, the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center received a call about a vehicle hitting a building on the Kansas Turnpike at the east Topeka Toll Plaza, according to Deputy Andrew Mergen.

At the scene deputies discovered a 2014 Mercedes-Benz C 300 driven by Nathan L. Tennant, 29, had hit a building owned by the Kansas Turnpike Authority.

 Tennant, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.  He was cleared by medical personnel on scene and arrested for DUI and Transporting an Open Container of Liquor, according to Mergen.

The Shawnee Heights Fire Department, the City of Topeka Fire Department, and AMR Paramedics responded to the scene.
