Open Door making preparations to reopen for residents

The Open Door homeless shelter at 136 West 3rd Street in Junction City is preparing to once again begin housing residents. The facility has been closed in recent weeks while facing financial challenges.

Executive Director Mickey Davies said they will begin accepting residents on March 8. "Right now we're going through a hiring. A lot of our folks who worked for us needed to get a job, they couldn't wait on us. So we're hiring right now."

Davies noted one donor provided funding to cover the night shift for two months. There have been other donations from members of the rural farm community and from churches, Manhattan and Woodbine areas.

"I said about a month ago when we were into this really deep, I guess if God wants us to stay open we'll stay open, and apparently he does."

March 8 is opening day!
