Police arrest 12-year-old Kan. girl after video of attack goes viral

SHAWNEE COUNTY – Law enforcement authorities are investigating a violent incident involving a 12-year-old girl captured on video that has gone viral on social media.

The incident reportedly took place at around 11:45 a.m. Thursday morning in the 1200 block of SW Washburn Avenue in Topeka, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Koenen.

The incident was reported to the Topeka Police Department shortly after noon Thursday.  A 14-year-old girl was injured during the incident.

Police took the 12-year-old into custody. Following questioning and further investigation, they arrested the girl and booked her in the Shawnee County Juvenile Department of Corrections for a felony Aggravated Battery charge.

β€œThe incident that took place Thursday is extremely unsettling not only to myself, but to the Topeka community,” said Topeka Police Chief Bill Cochran. β€œI am proud of the men and women of the Topeka Police Department for their hard work on this investigation.”
