Police K9 helps in arrest of Kansas felon during traffic stop

BARTON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating two  suspects after separate traffic stops in Great Bend

Just before 2p.m. Sunday, police stopped a 2003 Pontiac in the 2700 block of 24th for a traffic violation. During the stop, K-9, Menta, was deployed for a sniff around the vehicle and indicated an odor of an illegal drug in the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found.

Police arrested 55-year old David Meitler and booked him at Barton County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond. He has a previous drug conviction in Pawnee County in 2005, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Just after 7:30p.m. February 28, police pulled over a driver in the 2300 block of Monroe in Great Bend and recognized the driver as 58-year old Earnest Klima and knew he was driving without a license, according to a media release.

As Klima was arrested, the officer located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on him. Klima was booked at Barton County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
