Woman charged with murder for shooting death at Kansas home

TOPEKA, KAN. (AP) — A Kansas woman has been charged with second-degree murder after a man was shot to death during the weekend.

Raishawn Smith-Parker, 47, Topeka, was charged Wednesday in the death of Kelly Parker, 51, who was found shot to death at a Topeka home on Saturday, Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay said.

Smith-Parker was being held on $500,000 bond.

Parker died from a gunshot wound to the head, apparently after a domestic disturbance, police said.

Smith-Parker is scheduled to appear March 12 at a scheduling hearing.

TOPEKA –Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal weekend shooting and made an arrest.

Just before 1a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a home in the 1400 block of SW Van Buren in Topeka, regarding a shooting, according to Lt. Steve Roth.

On arrival, officers located a deceased man later identified as Kelly Parker, Sr., 51, Topeka.

Quick follow up led to police taking Raishawn Smith-Parker, 47, Topeka  into custody for questioning.  Police later arrested and transported her to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for 2nd Degree Murder, according to Roth.

The investigation indicates this shooting stemmed from a domestic disturbance, according to Roth.  Police have released no additional details.
