New Royals owner patiently awaiting rescheduled opening day

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — This was supposed to be the first opening day for the Royals under new owner John Sherman. The fulfillment of a lifelong ambition. Instead, Kauffman Stadium sat empty under sunny skies and amid continued uncertainty whether baseball will be played at all this year.

The outbreak of the new coronavirus has brought the sports world to a halt. That includes baseball, which is hard at work planning for an abbreviated season that executives hope will begin later this year.

Cartier Diarra is leaving the K-State basketball program

Head coach Bruce Weber made the following statement Wednesday about the decision of Cartier Diarra to end his playing career at K-State.

“Cartier has informed me of his desire to test his pro basketball opportunities with the option to transfer to another school for his final season of eligibility. I’m supportive of Cartier’s decision and appreciate the time he has given this program the last four years. He has been a part of many great moments here. We look forward to him graduating this spring and pursuing his dream of playing pro basketball.”
