Police: Alcohol, speed a factor in fatal Kan. motorcycle crash

SALINE COUNTY — One person died in an accident just after 9:30p.m. Saturday in Salina.

A 2001 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Jahdiel Mercado, 37, of Salina, was northbound in the 2600 Block of Centennial Road at a high rate of speed, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester. 

The motorcycle struck the curb and a left turn sign at Derussy Road.

Mercado was ejected from the motorcycle. EMS transported him to a Wichita hospital where died. Mercado was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the accident, according to Forrester.
