SHAWNEE COUNTY— Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal shooting and have identified the victim as 18-year-old Joheem Meredith of Topeka. He was a senior at Topeka West High School.

Just after 9:30p.m. Tuesday, Meredith arrived at a Topeka hospital suffering from a gunshot wound believed to be life-threatening, according to Lt. Ron Ekis. Meredith was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police believe the shooting occurred in the parking lot of White Lakes Plaza Apartments in the 3700 block of SW Plaza Drive in Topeka, according to Ekis.

No arrests had been reported late Wednesday afternoon and police said detectives were still developing leads on a suspect.

His death was Topeka’s ninth homicide this year.
