
SHAWNEE COUNTY— Authorities have recovered the body and identified the man who drowned in Mission Creek on Friday 32-year-old Cody, L. Campbell, according to Sheriff Brian Hill.
Campbell's body was recovered with the assistance of the Topeka, Dover, Auburn, Mission and Shawnee Heights Fire Departments as well as Kansas Search and Rescue Dog Association.
Just after 9:30a.m., the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center received a call of a possible drowning in Mission Creek near the 1800 block of SW Glick Road, according to Deputy Shayna Anderson.
According to statements at the scene, two individuals were on land working near the creek when one of the men later identified as Campbell jumped in to try to save a dog that entered the water.
Campbell was swept under by the fast moving water. The other individual attempted a rescue but was unsuccessful.

Just after 9:30a.m., the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center received a call of a possible drowning in Mission Creek near the 1800 block of SW Glick Road, according to Deputy Shayna Anderson.
According to statements at the scene, two individuals were on land working near the creek when one of the men jumped in to try to save a dog that entered the water.
The man was swept under by the fast moving water. The other individual attempted a rescue but was unsuccessful.
A recovery operation is underway with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, Dover Fire Department, Mission Fire Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, according to Anderson.
