SALINE COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just after 4:30a.m. Wednesday in Saline County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1990 Honda Shadow driven by  Louis V. Swartz, 35, Salina, was northbound on Interstate 135 exiting to Interstate 70 eastbound.

The motorcycle left the roadway and then the riderless Honda slid across Interstate 70 and  collided with a 2019 Dodge Caravan driven by James Shanks, 35, of Piketon, Ohio, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.

What caused Swartz to come off the motorcycle is unknown. However a Kenworth tractor-trailer rig was reported to also have been involved with the the accident.  The KHP has not indicated how the semi was involved.

EMS transported Swarts to the hospital in Salina. Shanks and four passengers in the van were not injured, according to Soldan.

Swarts was not wearing a helmet.

The rented minivan sustained front-end damage and the motorcycle sustained damage to its side, Soldan said.
