Kansas man arrested after 5-hour standoff

TOPEKA — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect who surrendered after more than five hours of negotiations and standoff in Topeka.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a home in the 3600 block of SW Skyline Parkway on a check welfare call, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Koenen.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that an adult female victim was being held against her will. A short time later, the victim was able to leave the home safely.

Police ultimately took the suspect identified as 38-year-old Brian M. Wright into custod  around 6:15 a.m. Sunday.

Wright was is being held on requested charges of Domestic Battery,, Criminal Restraint and Aggravated Assault, according to Koenen.
