Junction City High School Athletic director Matt Westerhaus said the blessing has been received for summer athlete workouts from the Geary County Health Department and the school district to begin this week.
Westerhaus was sent information to incoming ninth through twelfth graders about strength and conditioning opportunities, protocols that will be followed and how to sign up. "Our first mission is safety of others and those people participating in it. We're going to follow some strict guidelines that we've put in place to ensure that safety remains, and then also allows us to kind of get back together and get some things done in preparation hopefully, for some fall activities."
Westerhaus said this summer officials are focusing first on the high school students and then will assess the measures in place and how things are working. "And then see if we can work with some middle school students, maybe some youth camps down the road but nothing immediate.
