Drones help find Kan. burglary suspect hiding in woods

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a pair of residential burglaries and have a suspect in custody.

Just before 1p.m. Thursday, sheriff's deputies responded to a residential burglary that had recently occurred in the 3900 block of SE Howey Road, according to deputy Shayna Anderson. 

The victims provided a description of the suspect and deputies began searching the area.

At 2:15pm deputies responded to another reported residential burglary nearby in the 2200 block of SE 41st Street.

Deputies, K9’s and drones were used to search the area and the suspect was identified as Paul D. Cohagen, 50, Topeka, was found hiding in a wooded area with stolen items.

Deputies took Cohagen into custody without incident. He was transported to the Shawnee County Sheriff’s office for questioning and later booked him on requested charges of Burglary, Felony theft, Theft, Criminal damage to property, Possession of marijuana and Possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Anderson.
