Fire Marshall: 3 hospitalized after Kansas house fire

TOPEKA — Three people were injured in a house fire early Friday in Topeka.

Just before 9a.m., fire responded to a fire at 1828 SW Central Park Avenue, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison. Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the two story home.

Firefighters rescued one adult victim from the roof of the structure. Two other adults were able to self-evacuate prior to the fire departments arrival. All three victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A Topeka Fire Department Investigation Unit determined the fire cause to be accidental and started in the first floor kitchen.

Estimated dollar loss – $10,000.00; of which $8,000.00 is associated with structural loss and $2,000.00 associated with contents loss.

Working smoke detectors were not located within the home, according to Harrison.
