Sheriff: Drowing at reservoir in western Kansas

HODGEMAN COUNTY — One person drowned in Hodgeman County on Saturday.

Just after 3p.m., a 911 call reported a possible drowning at the swimming area at Horsethief Reservoir, according to a social media report from the Hodgeman County Sheriff's office.

Additional units were dispatched as the scene turned into a recovery status. Shortly after 5p.m., a Kansas Wildlife and Parks sonar unit was able to locate an individual and the victim was removed from the water and pronounced deceased.  The sheriff's office did not release the name of the victim or additional details.

In addition to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Jetmore EMS and Fire, Ford County Fire Dive Team, Ford County Sheriff's Office, KHP ground and air unit, Garden City Fire Rescue Boat and Dive Team, Ford County Communications and the Jetmore Food Center assisted at the scene.
