
SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating the death of a baby have made two arrests.
On December 24, 2022, police responded to report of an infant that was not breathing inthe 2000 block of SE Echo Ridge in Topeka, according to Lt. Donna Eubanks.
The infant girl was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
Through the course of the investigation conducted by Topeka Police detectives and the Shawnee County Coroner’s Office, the death was ruled a homicide. As a result of the investigation, police arrested a a 15-year-old from Topeka on requested charges of Murder in the 1st degree, Murder in the 2nd degree, Aggravated endangering a child and Abuse of a child.
Related to the incident, police arrested Lucia Meraz-Arreola, 45, Topeka on requested charges of Aggravated Endangering a Child.
The teen is being held in the Shawnee County Juvenile Detention Center.
