Police: Kansas man accused of criminal threat at business

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged criminal threat.

Just after 5p.m. on Saturday officers investigated a criminal threat that had occurred at 119 South 9th Street, according to. Police Chief Mike Wilson.

A 25-year-old employee at a local business reported that a man who had previously been banned from being on the premises had came onto the business property around 5:15p.m. on Saturday and threatened the employee with great bodily harm.

Police located the suspect identified as 48-year-old Tyon Whitely a short time later in the 100 block South 8th and he was taken into custody.

In April, police arrested him on requested charges of theft by deception, according to online jail records in connection with an incident at Casey’s. 1629 Main Street in Atchison, according to Wilson.

On two occasions in 2021 Whitely spent time in jail on requested charges involving criminal trespass, according to online jail records.

He remains jailed on requested charge of criminal threat and criminal trespass, according to Wilson.
