
SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a case of alleged arson and have a suspect in custody.
Just before 1:30a.m. Dec. 6, fire crews responded to a vehicle fire at 522 SW 6th Avenue in Topeka, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison.
Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames coming from a passenger car.
A Preliminary investigation indicates the fire was intentionally set. The estimated dollar loss is $1,200.00; all of which is associated with the loss of the vehicle, according to Harrison.
On Monday, police arrested 33-year-old Rashonda Mendez and booked her into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of burglary and arson, according to Harrison.
