
KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement are investigating a Sunday morning homicide in Kansas City, Missouri have identified the victim as 21-year-old Tayeron Russ, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.
Just after 4a.m. Sunday, off-duty officers working at the Town Topic restaurant heard several sounds of gunshots coming from a parking lot directly south of the business, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez.
Officers quickly responded to the sound of gunfire and observed several groups of individuals involved in an interaction that escalated into shots fired.
Officers immediately relayed to dispatch a shooting had occurred and provided details on people and vehicles believed to be involved that were fleeing from the area. Additional officers were summoned to the scene and assisted with locating and detaining several individuals for further questioning.
One off duty officer was able to detain an armed individual while the additional officer directed their focus to an adult male who had been struck by gunfire in the parking lot and began rendering medical aid.
EMS responded and transported the victim, later identified as Ruff, to an area hospital for treatment. Hospital staff notified officers Ruff had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Police released no additional details on Wednesday.
