🎥Police investigating fire at Kansas home

COWLEY COUNTY—Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of house fire in Arkansas City.

Just after 10:30 a.m. Thursday, the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department responded to a fire in a home in the 300 block of North 8th Street, according to a media release.

Upon arrival, crews found a working fire in the northwest corner of the home, with flames extending into the attic. Firefighters made a quick entry and had water on the fire within about one minute.

According to Fire Marshal Gary Bowker, the fire was contained within five minutes. Crews remained on scene through much of the afternoon to check for and extinguish hot spots in the attic area.

A primary search confirmed that no one was inside the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Neighbors indicated the house had been vacant for approximately two to three weeks. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The structure sustained heavy damage, estimated at more than 50 percent loss.

The Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department is working closely with the Arkansas City Police Department as the investigation continues.
