Update: Train derailment slows traffic near Dodge City

FORD COUNTY —Officials are working to make repairs after a train derailment caused major damage to track and the highway east of Dodge City in Ford County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

One rail car was dragged across the road, according to Trooper Mike Racy.

The sheriff's office advises travelers to consider an alternate route if you plan on traveling east on Trail Street towards Ft. Dodge and west on Highway 400 from Ford to Dodge City. .

FORD COUNTY—A train derailment caused major damage to track and the highway east of Dodge City in Ford County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Traffic has been reduced to two lanes of travel. The two west bounds lanes are closed. Driver should expect delays and consider an alternate route if you plan on traveling east on Trail Street towards Ft. Dodge and west on Highway 400 from Ford to Dodge City.

Cargill is open for employees. 

Railroads crews have been contacted and are on the way for repairs.  There were no injuries reported.
