STAFFORD COUNTY—A Kansas man died in an accident just before 7:30a.m. Thursday in Stafford County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2014 GMC Sierra driven by Itzel Guillen, 19, St. John, was northbound on U.S. 281 three miles north of St. John. A 2012 Chevy Silverado driven by Claudio Sanchez Molina, 52, Great Bend, was southbound.
Guillen lost control of the GMC on the icy bridge. The pickup traveled left of center. Both vehicles collided on the bridge causing the Chevy to strike the cement railing on the west side of the highway.
Sanchez Molina was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Minnis Chapel.
EMS transported Guillen and one passenger in the Chevy 41-year-old Jose S. Garcia-Hernandez of Great Bend to the hospital in Great Bend. EMS transported a second passenger in the Chevy Carlos P. Castro, 25, Great Bend, to Wesley Medical Center. The occupants in the Chevy were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.
