Police: Kan. man fatally shot brother during argument

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal shooting and have arrested 61-year-old Thomas Harris.

Just after 1p.m. Monday, police responded to a shooting call at apartments in the 2700 block of South St. Francis in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

The victim identified as 68-year-old Troy Harris reportedly walked down the stairs of the apartment complex and called 911 to report he had been shot.

EMS found him in the complex parking lot and transported him to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries and he later died, according to Davidson.

Investigators learned that Thomas Harris was inside his apartment and his brother Troy was there.  There was a dispute between them, according to Davidson. During the argument, Thomas fired multiple shots at his brother and then fled the apartment complex.

Police located and arrested him Monday night. Harris is being held on requested charges of 2nd degree murder and possession a firearm by a felon, according to Davidson.  Harris, who had only been in Wichita a short time has previous felony convictions, according to Davidson.

EMS transported him to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries where he later died, according to Davidson. It is not believed to be a random incident.
