SEDGWICK COUNTY — Joshua Orlando was sentenced Friday to life in prison by Judge Jeffrey Goering in Sedgwick County District Court, following his conviction July 1, 2026, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
Joshua Orlando, 29, of Wichita pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder and aggravated kidnapping in the April 17, 2026, shooting death of Ivy Unruh.
Orlando was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years, a punishment commonly known as a "hard 25." The sentence was imposed on Count One.
Orlando was also sentenced to an additional 165 months on the aggravated kidnapping charge consecutive to count one. Meaning, that sentence will be served after the Count One sentence is complete, not at the same time.
As a result, Orlando will not be eligible for parole for approximately 38.75 years.

SEDGWICK COUNTY — A Kansas man who admitted killing his wife will learn his fate on Friday.
In July, Joshua Orlando, 29, of Wichita, pleaded guilty to Felony First Degree Murder and Aggravated Kidnapping in connection with the April 17, 2026, murder of Ivy Unruh, according to a media release from the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
The plea was entered in Sedgwick County District Court before Judge Jeffrey Goering.
Just after 8 a.m. April 17, police were dispatched to a reported shooting at 7272 E. 37th Street in Wichita, according to a media release. When officers arrived, they found Ivy Unruh near Building 5 with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers also recovered a firearm at the scene.
Unruh was taken to a local hospital in grave condition and died three days later.
Joshua Orlando, who was married to but separated from Unruh, was taken into custody at the scene. He was transported to the Wichita Police Investigations Bureau for an interview and later booked into the Sedgwick County Jail where he was held on a bond of $1,500,000.00, according to online jail records. On April 22, Orlando was charged with premeditated first-degree murder.
Orlando faces a minimum of 38.75 years in the Kansas Department of Corrections before he becomes eligible for parole.
