SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal weekend shooting and have identified the victim as 42-year-old Manuel Vargas-Avila of Wichita.
At approximately 1:00 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a stabbing call at Planeview Park the 2800 block of S. Fees, according to Police Captain Jason Stephens.
A 39-year-old male passerby found Vargas-Avila unresponsive on a park bench. EMS and fire personnel arrived on the scene to provide medical aid, but Vargas-Avila was pronounced dead on the scene.
The investigation revealed that Vargas –Avila was in the 2800 bock of south Fees when a disturbance ensued between multiple individuals. During the disturbance, Vargas-Avila was shot.
This was not a random incident, and investigators are working to determine all the circumstances of the incident, according to Stephens.
