BARTON COUNTY —An alert citizen helped rescue a driver and baby following a weekend accident in Great Bend.

Just before 5p.m. April 4, police were dispatched to a one-vehicle accident in the 4700 block of 10th Street in Great Bend, according to a social media report.

The callers advised that a vehicle had left the roadway and was submerged in the pond at that location. Units with the Great Bend Fire Department were also dispatched to respond.  As first responders arrived, they learned driver and infant passenger of the vehicle were already out of the water.

A passerby had stopped and assisted the driver and baby out of the water. Others stopped and assisted until emergency units arrived on scene. No serious injuries were reported at the scene, however as a precaution, both the driver and the baby were transported by ambulance to be checked for injuries.
