Because of  the coronavirus pandemic, tourism visits and transient guest tax revenues have been down in Geary County in 2020. But that was not the case in July and August when they were up 7  percent 31 percent, respectively, over one year ago at the same time.

Michelle Stimatze, Convention and Visitor's Bureau Director, believes the outdoor tourism was a big factor in the increases. "Because covid has really affected travel in the state and the United States as well. The great outdoors is an opportune place where you can take your families and rent cabins and have some outdoor time."

Milford lake is a destination for many visitors to Geary County. Transient guest tax is a tax paid by users of lodging facilities.
