
KANSAS CITY— A judge sentenced a Kansas City man to 20 years in prison for the fatal stabbing in November 2020 of Daniel Atkinson, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
Trever A. Young, 30, pleaded guilty to Murder 2nd Degree.
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched on Nov. 5, 2020 to the 3700 block of Gardner Avenue on a reported cutting. Officers found a victim, later identified as 37-year-old Daniel Atkison.
He was suffering from apparent trauma. He later died at a hospital of his injuries. A witness provided a suspect description, a name and that the suspect was traveling on foot from the crime scene.
Officers took the Young into custody soon after. He had apparent blood on his clothing and a knife that appeared to be bloody. Witnesses described for police how the suspect punched or stabbed the victim in the stomach.
