KANSAS CITY —The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating an officer involved shooting in Pettis County.
According to a preliminary investigation, just after 11:45p.m. Sunday, sheriff's deputies were called to a home in the 3300 Block of State Route TT in Pettis County for a woman who was believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis, according to a media release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The deputies learned the woman had shot herself in the leg.
Three deputies arrived at the scene and made contact with the woman in the driveway of the home. Deputies were giving the woman commands at which time she raised a rifle at the deputies. One of the deputies fired his duty weapon striking the woman. The woman was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No deputies were injured. Deputies recovered a pellet rifle at the scene.
The patrol is investigating the shooting and will forward the results to the Pettis County Attorney.
