Police: Suspect in Kansas shooting turns himself in

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting and have a suspect in custody.

Just after 6:30 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the 3000 block of SE 6th Street in Topeka after report a possible shooting, according to Lt. Kelvin Johnson.

A private vehicle transported the victim to a local hospital where officers were able to speak with him. The victim had non-life threatening injuries from the shooting that was a result of an altercation between known individuals.

Later that night, the suspect voluntarily came to the Law Enforcement Center where he was interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Elias Martinez, 20 of Topeka, was booked into the Shawnee County Jail on requested charges of Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage to Property, Criminal Discharge of a Firearm at an Occupied Vehicle, and Unlawful Discharge of a firearm in the City Limits, according to Johnson.
