HUTCHINSON — Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas notes that gas prices are still moving a lot right now.

"The key words continue to be volatility and fluctuation with regard to crude oil and gas prices," Steward said. "Today in Kansas, we're at $3.79 a gallon on average."

Kansas is still one of the best places in the country to fuel up.

"We're 45 cents less than the national average, which is $4.24 today," Steward said. "That puts us at second least expensive gas prices in the country."

There are some policymakers who want to see stimulus checks or gas tax reductions to lessen the pain at the pump. Steward doesn't want to see unintended consequences from that.

"We understand and we appreciate legislators desires to help motorists and others who are grappling with these higher gas prices," Steward said. "One cautionary note is that we think it's very important to think about any of those cuts in terms of taxes and the impact they may have transportation funding, especially maintaining roads and keeping roads safe."

Be sure to check your owner’s manual for what gas is required for your vehicle.
