SALINE COUNTY— A Kansas man who went fishing Friday evening was found dead Sunday morning near a log jam in the Solomon River.

Wayne Jones, 67, of Solomon, had walked to the Solomon River south of town to fish, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.

When he didn't return home on Saturday, the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office was called, Soldan said.

Dickinson County investigators found Jones' tackle box on Saturday. Because the area where the tackle box was located was in the vacinity of the county line, the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office called the Saline County Sheriff's Office on Saturday night, Soldan said.

On Sunday morning, the Saline County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol and Rescue Squad joined the search and located Jones' body floating near a log jam in the Solomon River, Soldan said.

Authorities believe Jones slipped on the steep bank and was not able to climb back out of the river, according to Soldan.
