Suspect faces additional charges in deadly Chiefs parade shooting

KANSAS CITY —Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson on Friday announced that a grand jury approved a superseding indictment against one of the alleged shooters from the 2024 Chiefs Super Bowl Parade shooting., according to Johnson's office.

The grand jury found probable cause to move forward on a revised and updated set of charges against 25-year-old Lyndell Mays, who was originally charged in 2024 with 2nd Degree Felony Murder, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. 

The superseding indictment keeps each of those charges in place and adds seven counts of 2nd Degree Assault and seven counts of 1st Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Each of the endangering counts is a class B felony, carrying five to 15 years in prison each. Each of the assault counts is a class D felony, carrying one to seven years. 

“We remain committed to pursuing justice for every person harmed that day, including Lisa Lopez-Galvan, whose life was taken,” Prosecutor Johnson said. “All victims and their families are at the center of our work, and we’re committed to holding Mr. Mays accountable.”
