Life in prison: Kan. woman admits to sex crimes involving a child

HARVEY COUNTY—A Kansas woman is going to prison after admitting to child sex crimes.

On Monday District Judge Jason Lane sentenced 32-year-old Gabriaellea Akin 32, of Hesston to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 50 years, according to the Harvey County Attorney's office.

In June, Akin pleaded guilty to Aggravated Criminal Sodomy and Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a child, The victim of the case was a child under 14-years-old.

Along with the prison sentence, Judge Lane ordered Akin to serve lifetime parole and lifetime registration as a sexual offender. Akin is also ordered to register as a sex offender pursuant to the Kansas Offender Registration Act.

Lifetime parole requires the Kansas Department of Corrections to supervise Akin the rest of her life. Akin is subject to conditions of release set by the Kansas Department of Corrections. If she violates those conditions, she could be sent back to prison.
