Sheriff: Remains of Kan. man missing since windstorm found

ELLIS COUNTY —On Friday morning, the remains of Derrick Kelley were found east of Codell Avenue in rural Ellis County near a burned vehicle determined to be a Dodge Durango registered to Kelley, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The coroner's office identified the remains as Kelley.

ELLIS COUNTY —The Ellis County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in locating Derrick Scott Kelley who was reported missing by his fiance after being overdue from work.

Kelley was last seen around 11th and Ash Street ln Hays on Dec. 15, 2021, at approximately 3:30 p.m. and was reportedly heading to an address In Natoma. It's believed Kelley was traveling country roads.

Kelley is described as a white male, age 38, 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds. He was last seen wearing jeans and work shoes and driving a 2004 blue Dodge Durango with a Kansas license plate. His photo accompanies this release.

Kelley is considered at risk due to the dangerous weather conditions accompanied by large grass fires and smoke that were occurring at the time he was traveling in northern Ellis County.
