Police: 2nd reported threat in a week at Kansas school district

FINNEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a second school threat in less than a week  at USD 457.

Just before 10a.m. Monday, police were dispatched to 1901 Wilcox Street Edith Scheuerman Elementary School, 1901 Wilcox Street in Garden City for a possible criminal threat, according to a media release.

Officers were told that a social media account, created by an unknown user, contained suspected threats against students from the school. Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that there was no threat to the students or the school, and the incident occurred off school property.

On Thursday, police were informed of a suspected threat at Horace Good Middle School, 1412 north Main in Garden City, according to a media release.

Officers learned that a 13-year-old student made threats against the school, which were reported to Horace Good personnel by several students.

Through the course of the investigation, it was learned there was no threat to the school or students. Disciplinary action has been taken by the school for the 13-year-old student.

The Garden City Police Department and USD 457 encouraged parents to monitor children's social media account(s). They encourage paraents to remind your child to immediately report any information about any school safety-related incidents to administrators/staff and/or police.
