Arrest made after Kan. elementary school student struck by arrow

MCPHERSON COUNTY —An elementary school student was injured in an accident Tuesday morning in McPherson.

Just before 10a.m., police  responded to Roosevelt Elementary School, 800 S Walnut Street in McPherson, where  a 7-year-old student was struck in the arm by an arrow on the playground, according to a media release.

McPherson Emergency Medical Services and Fire Rescue responded, provided medical assistance, and transported the child to McPherson Center for Health.

The victim was later transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, in stable condition. Officers arrested a 31-year-old man, identified as  Nehemiah Scott, according to online booking records, who shot a bow and arrow in the area, resulting in a stray arrow striking the student.

Scott is being held on requested charges of Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Child Endangerment on a bond of $12,500.00.

It is unlawful in McPherson to operate an air rifle, bow and arrow, slingshot or BB gun except within the confines of a building or structure from which the projectiles cannot escape.
