SALINE COUNTY- Sheriff's deputies arrested a Kansas man Thursday afternoon after the car he was driving traveled off an exit ramp and launched over an overpass on Interstate 135.

Matthew Griffin, 45, of Salina, was northbound on Interstate 135 in a Ford Fusion when he began driving up the Assaria exit ramp south of Salina, then onto the grassy area between the exit ramp and the highway, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.

The car struck the guardrail along the south side of Assaria Road and launched over the road, finally coming to a stop in the median of I-135 north of the exit.

An acquaintance called the sheriff's office to report that Griffin had been drinking and was driving in excess of 100 mph, but the accident occurred before deputies could locate him.

Griffin was transported to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of a head laceration and then was booked into the Saline County Jail on the following requested charges of Driving under the influence of alcohol, Transporting an open container, Driving with a suspended license, Making an unsafe turn and Improper driving on a laned roadways
