Kansas man admits $5,300 theft from store

PAWNEE COUNTY– Jason Lance Hummel, 44 of Hutchinson, appeared Tuesday afternoon in the Pawnee County District Court before Magistrate Judge Julie Cowell, for his alleged involvement in a theft at the Big R Store in Larned, Kansas on February 18, according to Pawnee County Attorney Doug McNett.

 Hummel entered a Guilty plea to the charge of Theft. After determining there was a factual basis, Judge Cowell accepted the plea and sentenced Hummel to twelve months on probation and ordered him to pay $5,326.00 in restitution joint and several with his co-defendants.

The theft was investigated by the Larned Police Department. At approximately 6:30pm on February 18, two men entered the Big R store, 908 East 14th in Larned, according to a media release from Larned Police.

Both men then filled their shopping carts but left the store without paying. Video surveillance cameras showed the men placing the merchandise in the back of a newer model silver Jeep Cherokee and then traveling east from Larned. Two female subjects were observed getting out of the Jeep while the men were in the Big R store.

On May 10, Hummell was arrested without incident in Hutchinson. Also charged in the Theft are Garritt Ward Kent McConnell, 44;  Kyla Ann Larralde, 20 and Desirea Nicole Larralde, 19 all of Hutchinson. McConnell is currently being held in the Reno County Jail.
