Police rescue 41 animals, arrest two in Kansas cruelty case

LYON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a case of alleged animal cruelty.

On September 2, 2026, Animal Control Officers and Patrol Officers of the Emporia Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence located at 621 Lakeview St., Lot 14 in Emporia as part of an investigation into suspected animal abuse and neglect, according to a media release.

During the search of the residence, Animal Control Officers and Police Officers discovered animals living in unsanitary and unhealthy conditions. A total of 10 cats and 31 dogs were rescued from the residence and removed from the conditions.

Two individuals, 44-year-old Matthew Carver  and 37-year-old Sarah Carver were arrested in connection with the investigation and are facing charges of animal cruelty and neglect.
